WHAT IS STOCKPILING?
Stockpiling is buying many of one item at its rock bottom price even if you do not need it. This is a hard concept to grasp for some. I am still trying to explain to my husband why I come home with 6 more boxes of cereal or 2 more bottles of hairspray. You buy when the price is low so you are not paying the premium when you need it. So if cereal is on sale and I can get it for $1.00 a box, I am going to stockpile as many as I can and I will see my savings in the weeks to come when cereal is not on my weekly shopping list. Here are some general STOCKPILING rules:
- You should really just stockpile the items you use so they do not go to waste. Every items I bring home, I will use.
- Your stockpile will take some time to build. Try not to buy all of your stash in weeks. I buy a little here and a little there and my stockpile has grown quite well.
- Do not go over your weekly budget trying to build your stockpile. Your weekly budget will eventually decrease if you stockpile correctly.
- Know when you have enough and resist the impulse to buy just because it is a great sale. I have about 20 tubes of toothpaste right now. Toothpaste is always on sale and I am always tempted to buy it. I have to pull out some will power to resist the buy because it is on sale for $0.25. Save the $0.25 and skip the toothpaste. If toothpaste is not free, I do not bring it home.
