I firmly believe in making a shopping list and sticking to it. I attribute most of my coupon success to my lists I make weekly.
BUT here is my tip for you today, start making your new shopping list the day you get home from your last shopping trip. Sounds a little odd, right? Most people don't want to think about grocery shopping for another week, and I used to be one of them. However when you keep an ongoing shopping list you are more likely be a better shopper and know what you are going to need at the store the next week. Have you ever run out of Parmesan Cheese and think, "I need to remember to get that next week when I go shopping." Only to forget it because you forgot to add it to your shopping list you were making days later. When I run out of a certain ingredient or favorite snack, I add to my list. When I get request for certain lunch or dinner items, I add an ingredients I need to the list. This way I never forget anything at the store and I never deviate from my list.
I bought one of those magnetic note pads (found at the Target $1 Spot) for my fridge to keep my weekly shopping list on. This way my list is always in the same place and always in view to remind me to continually add to it.
